A Brief Discussion of Husk's Meaning

Husk was a difficult piece to bring about. Not just technically, but emotionally as well. The heavy, interlocking reinforcement bars weave into a locking structure that carries a density reminiscent of a fortress. In many ways, that's exactly what it is. The structure is a fortress of cold, rational logic.

But the structure has been ruptured from within. The "heart" is gone from it. Every bar terminates to a point inside and curls outward indicating a violent outward expulsion. All that's left is the outward shell, or husk, of a once impervious structure.

For me, this piece is the external artifact of a personal growth process that occurred during the production of this piece. Did the pain of this process produce the piece, or did the piece induce the transformative experience? I never can tell anymore...
