A Brief Discussion of Persona

I've been interested for some time in the structures of human consciousness. An important concept in the Jungian model is the concept of the persona. I wanted to express this idea of the "face we put forth" from the deeper unconscious structures of our psyche.

From the woven tapestry of our central "self structure" we exude the facade we want the world to see, no matter how contradictory, or ultimately self-defeating it may ultimately become.

Here, the mirror-like fragments coalesce into a rough outline of the "House", the Jungian symbol of the self. These mirror pieces are held in place by undulating rods emanating from the solid, interior core of the deeper self-structure.

The whole piece tends to vibrate as it is touched. The whole effect is one of being in transition. It looks as though the center could reconfigure the outward facade at any time. Just as a someone would shift their facade to suit the circumstances.

This piece was originally going to be part of Husk. Upon the completion of the welding of the rods on Husk, I was fully intending to attach brass to the re-bar structure. But it became obvious almost instantly that the brass facade was to be part of a new piece.
